The following information pertains to members of the VCU and VCU Health communities who are obtaining their first Campus Card. In order to receive a card, a valid government-issued photo ID must be presented upon first issuance. According to your VCU classification, please follow the instructions below to obtain a card.
Student Learners
Student Learners in the School of Medicine are responsible for purchasing a VCUCard for $30.00. The cost will not be covered by the School of Medicine.
Academic Students are enrolled in general studies curriculums such as Business Administration, Arts, Engineering, Education, etc.
Students can obtain their first-card issuance free of charge during the semester in which they are enrolled for classes. A card request should be made no earlier than two weeks before classes begin unless an orientation session is scheduled.
Distance Learning: A VCUCard is not required for Distance Learning students who are taking online courses without physically attending classes on campus, however, a card can be requested if necessary.

In-Person: Schedule an appointment to visit our office on the academic campus. We take your picture and print your first card. Appointments usually take less than 10 minutes.
Online: You submit some paperwork and a photo of your choice. Then you schedule an appointment to pick up your first card from the academic campus. This process can sometimes take a few days to complete.
Mail: You submit some paperwork and a photo of your choice. Then we mail your first card to you. Snail mail takes the longest - do not pick this option if you are in a hurry!
Health Sciences Students
Health Sciences Students are enrolled in health-related curriculums and are typically in one of five health sciences schools: College of Health Professions, School of Dentistry, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and School of Pharmacy.
Students can obtain their first-card issuance free of charge during the semester in which they are enrolled for classes. A card request should be made no earlier than two weeks before classes begin unless an orientation session is scheduled.
In addition to their student VCUCard, Health Sciences Students will receive a secondary VCU Health Card. The student card is the primary Campus Card and will house all access privileges. Students are responsible for displaying the appropriate card for the role they are in the process of performing.

School of Nursing: VCU Health Employees who enroll as a student in the School of Nursing are required to schedule an in-person appointment. New students will surrender their current VCU Health Card in exchange for 2 new cards: a VCUCard (the primary card which houses all access privileges) and a VCU Health Card (the secondary card for health-related identification). VCU Employees
VCU Employees are faculty and staff individuals that are paid by VCU.
Employees can obtain their first-card issuance free of charge after a personnel administrator of the sponsoring department enters the employee information into Banner. The process takes 24-48 hours to appear in the Campus Card Services system, which is typically completed before the first day of employment. Employees usually receive instructions from HR or their supervisor regarding when to obtain a card. Before scheduling an appointment, please call us to verify the employee account status.

VCU Affiliates
VCU Affiliates are individuals who are affiliated with VCU but are not paid by the university and may include retirees, clinical faculty, staff of temporary-help agencies, and contractors who provide services to the university.
All Affiliate first-issuance and replacement cards cost $30.00. First-issuance for Aramark, RMC, and VCU Police employees will be billed to the sponsoring department.
Affiliates can obtain their first VCUCard after a VCU personnel administrator of the sponsoring department enters their affiliate information into Banner. This can take 24-48 hours to appear in the Campus Card Services system.
Retirees and Emeritus: Only the previous employer or the Human Resources Department can grant faculty Retiree or Emeritus status. Once processed in Banner, a letter will be mailed as verification of status. A copy of this letter must be submitted at the time the request for a VCUCard is made.

VCU Health Cards
The following information pertains to members of the VCU Health community who are obtaining their first VCU Health Card. Use of the VCU Health Card by the cardholder signifies agreement with all Campus Card Terms and Conditions provided by the VCUCard Office, and all terms and conditions provided by the VCU Health System HR Identification Card Policy.

Authorization Requirement
No card can be issued until the VCUCard Office has received authorization for new employment or a change in job status from the VCU Health Workday system.
VCU Health Employees
VCU Health Employees are health service team members that areemployed either by the VCU Health System, VCU Health MCV Physicians, or VCU Health CMH Physicians.
Employees can obtain their first VCU Health Card only after employment information has been received by the VCUCard Office. Employees will also take their photo at the VCU Health HR Express office when completing paperwork and will receive their VCU Health Card at the time of their scheduled orientation.
VCU Health Affiliates are individuals who are affiliated with but are not paid by VCU Health, which includes contingent workers, contractors, and volunteers who provide hospital-related services.
All Affiliate first-issuance and replacement cards cost $30.00. First-issuance cards are typically billed to the sponsoring department.
Affiliates can obtain their first VCU Health Card after VCU Health HR or the sponsoring department enters their affiliate information into Workday. Before scheduling an appointment, please call us to verify the affiliate account status.
